Joseph J. Schwerha IV

Professor, prosecutor and private attorney. Mr. Schwerha has the unique experience of having served in both the private and public sectors for several years. Most recently; however, he was appointed Associate Professor within the Department of Business and Economics at California University of Pennsylvania. He is responsible for instruction on all aspects of business law, as well as for development of new curriculum in the areas of privacy, cybercrime and information law. While not teaching, Mr. Schwerha primarily splits his time between his law firm, Schwerha & Associates (a boutique law firm concentrating in the areas of privacy, information security and electronic discovery law), and Trace Evidence, LLC. (his computer forensics and e-discovery consulting business).

Mr. Schwerha served as an assistant district attorney for several years, and will continue to do so on a part-time basis for a few more months during his transition to academics. While there he has been significantly involved with computer crime prosecution at both the state and national levels. Nationally, he has educated numerous investigators with regard to legal issues. He has taught for several organizations, including the: National District Attorneys Association, Federal Bureau of Investigation, National White Collar Crime Center, American Bar Association, and Federal Law Enforcement Training Center. At the state level, Mr. Schwerha has served an integral role in Pennsylvania’s efforts to combat cybercrime and to educate the bar with regard to privacy issues. He is a member of several local groups, including the: Technology Committee for the Pennsylvania District Attorneys Association, Tri-State Chapter of the HTCIA (president – 2003), and Pittsburgh High-Tech Crimes Task Force, among others. Within Pennsylvania, he regularly advises both all levels of law enforcement and civilians with regard to issues surrounding discovery, acquisition and use of digital evidence.

Mr. Schwerha holds a Juris Doctor from the University of Pittsburgh, as well as both a Bachelors and Masters of Science from Carnegie Mellon University. He has published several articles in various publications, including law reviews.

 

 
 

Jody R. Westby

Drawing upon a unique combination of more than twenty years of technical, legal, policy, and business experience, Ms. Westby provides consulting and legal services to public and private sector clients around the world in the areas of privacy, security, outsourcing risk management, business continuity, and technology compliance issues. She also serves as Adjunct Distinguished Fellow for Carnegie Mellon CyLab. Prior to forming Global Cyber Risk, Ms. Westby served as senior managing director for PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC), specializing in outsourcing and cyber security/privacy issues. Before that, she was president of The Work-IT Group; launched In-Q-Tel, an IT venture capital/solutions company for the CIA; served as director of domestic policy for the U.S. Chamber of Commerce; and was senior fellow and director of IT studies for the Progress & Freedom Foundation. Earlier in her career, Ms. Westby practiced law with two top-tier New York firms and spent ten years in the computer industry specializing in database management systems.
Ms. Westby is a member of the bars of the District of Columbia, Pennsylvania, and Colorado and serves as chair of the American Bar Association’s Privacy and Computer Crime Committee. She is a member of the World Federation of Scientists’ Permanent Monitoring Panel on Information Security and represents the ABA on the National Conference of Lawyers and Scientists. She is co-author and editor of four books on privacy, security, cybercrime, and enterprise security programs. She speaks globally and is the author of numerous articles.
